On the differences between EMI, EMS and EMC
Release time: 2017-12-22Views: 746

There are many abbreviations in the field of electrical interference. The literal translation of EMI (electro magnetic interference) mentioned here is electromagnetic interference. This is a compound word. We should consider “electromagnetic” and “interference” respectively.

The so-called “interference” refers to the degradation of the performance of the equipment after interference and the interference source that interferes with the equipment. The first meaning is that lightning makes the radio produce noise, the TV picture shows snowflakes after the motorcycle is driving nearby, and the radio sound is heard after picking up the phones. These can be abbreviated as “bc I”, “TV I”, “Tel I”, and these abbreviations have the same “I” (interference) (BC: broadcast)

So which part of EMI is EMI standard and EMI detection? Of course, the second meaning, that is, the interference source, also includes the electromagnetic energy before interference.

The second is “electromagnetism”. If the charge is static, it is called static electricity. When different potentials move in the same direction, electrostatic discharge occurs, generating current, and a magnetic field is generated around the current. If the direction and size of the current continue to change, electromagnetic waves will be produced.

Electricity exists in various states, all of which are collectively referred to as electromagnetism. Therefore, EMI standard and EMI detection are to determine the state of the processed electricity, and decide how to detect and evalsuate it.

What is the difference between EMS and EMC?

EMS (electro magnetic susceptibility) is literally translated as “electromagnetic sensitivity”. It refers to the ease of performance degradation caused by electromagnetic energy. In order to be easy to understand, we compare electronic devices to people, and compare electromagnetic energy to cold viruses. Sensitivity is whether they are prone to colds. If you are not easy to catch a cold, it means that you have strong immunity, that is, the English word immunity, that is, strong resistance to electromagnetic interference.

The literal translation of EMC (electro magnetic compatibility) is “electromagnetic compatibility”. It refers to the ability of the electromagnetic energy generated by the equipment to neither interfere with other equipment nor be interfered by the electromagnetic energy of other equipment.

The term EMC has a very broad meaning. Like a blind man touching an elephant, what you touch is very different from what you actually feel. In particular, electromagnetic phenomena contrary to the design intent should be regarded as EMC problems.

Electromagnetic energy detection, anti electromagnetic interference test, statistical processing of detection results, electromagnetic energy radiation suppression technology, natural electromagnetic phenomena such as lightning and geomagnetism, the impact of electric field and magnetic field on human body, international standards of electric field strength, transmission ways of electromagnetic energy, relevant standards and restrictions are all included in EMC.
